Special Needs In My Classroom -
Where Do I Start?
Tangara School is dedicated to creating educational opportunties for students with special needs. Our school motto Learning for Life is embedded in our curriculum so that every student can achieve their full potential.
Tangara School is a School for Specific Purposes (SSP) with students who have moderate to severe intellectual disabilities, including Autism, Down Syndrome and Cerebral Palsy. For some students, their disability has a significant impact on their physical health, mental heath and/or behaviour. The staff at Tangara School are committed to planning, developing and implementing programs and strategies to meet the extremely individual needs of every student within our school.
This website is dedicated to sharing our expertise to support all teachers who have a student with special needs in their classroom.
At Tangara School we have identified three specific areas which are essential to the successful inclusion of a student with special needs in any classroom. The collaborative development of the students Personalised Learning and Support Plan (PLP); the modification of Teaching and Learning Strategies; and the use of Visual and Technology Support Strategies. We have created a website to showcase our key strategies and share our knowledge and experience. Where applicable, we have provided information and links to other school and community resources.
